Alright, so I’ve been needing to get a driving license for Guadeloupe for a while now. I mean, I’ve got my license from back home, but apparently, that’s only good for like 20 days over there. After that, you’re kinda screwed. So, I started looking into how to get a proper license without too much hassle.

First off, I did some digging online. Found out that there’s this thing called an “International Driving Permit” or IDP, which sounds fancy, but it’s basically just a translation of your current license. Some folks say you can get one in like 15 minutes online without needing to take any tests. Sounds too good to be true, right? But I was desperate, so I gave it a shot.

I found a few websites that offer these IDPs. One of them was called E-ITCA, and they seemed legit enough. They asked for some basic info, a copy of my current license, and a photo. I filled everything out, paid the fee, which was a bit more than I expected, but hey, if it works, it’s worth it.

Then, I started looking into other options. I stumbled upon another company, EIT, that lets you exchange your license or get a new one if it’s lost or stolen. That got me thinking, maybe I could just “exchange” my license for a Guadeloupe one? I mean, it’s just a thought I still need to check if this is possible, but if it works then it will be great for me.

  • Checked out E-ITCA for an International Driving Permit.
  • Filled out the application and paid the fee.
  • Started researching EIT for license exchange.

While I was waiting to hear back about the IDP, I decided to do some more research. I mean, you can never be too careful with these things. I came across some forums and blogs where people were sharing their experiences. Some said that driving in Guadeloupe is pretty chill as long as you follow the rules. Others warned about the roads being a bit crazy, especially in the more rural areas.

Where to learn to drive?

One thing that caught my eye was this article about the easiest countries to learn to drive in. Apparently, Latvia is the third easiest in the world, and it’s super cheap to take the test there, like only 26 euros. If all else fails, maybe I’ll just fly to Latvia, get my license there, and then try to exchange it for a Guadeloupe one. Sounds like a plan, right?

So, that’s where I’m at right now. Waiting to see if this IDP thing works out. If not, I’ve got a few backup plans. I’ll keep you guys updated on how it goes. Maybe I’ll even write a blog post about the whole experience once I figure it all out.

Driving license stuff is a pain, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do to get around, right? Wish me luck!
