Okay, so I wanted to share my experience of applying for a Saint Helena passport. It was a bit of a process, but I got through it, and I thought it might be helpful to others to hear about what I went through.
First things first, you gotta be a Saint Helena citizen to even apply. That’s the basic rule. I already was, so that wasn’t a problem for me. If you’re not, well, you’ll need to become one before you can get the passport. That’s a whole other story, I guess.
Then I found out there are two types of passports, British and Saint Helenian. Both are actually processed on the island but they print it in the UK. And they use that diplomatic mail to send the British passport applications back and forth between the UK and Saint Helena. Seemed like a long way around, but okay. Anyway, my goal was to get the Saint Helena passport, so that’s the one I focused on.
Start to apply
I started by gathering all the documents I needed. You know, birth certificate, proof of citizenship, all that jazz. Make sure you have everything in order, or else it just delays the whole thing. Trust me, I learned that the hard way.
Once I had all my documents, I filled out the application form. It was pretty standard stuff, you know, name, address, date of birth. Nothing too crazy. But double-check everything! Typos can mess things up, and you don’t want that.

With the application form filled and documents together, I sent it all off. They said it would take some time, you know how these things go. It wasn’t a quick thing, that’s for sure. They process it on the island and then send it off to the UK for printing. While it’s a little bit troublesome, but it is still great!
Finally, after some waiting, I got a notification that my passport was ready! It was a great feeling. So that’s my experience with getting a Saint Helena passport. Not too bad, just a bit of a wait and a lot of paperwork. If you’re planning on doing it, just be prepared, organized, and patient. And that’s pretty much my story, hope it helps someone out there!
