So, I gotta tell you about this whole process I went through to get a Chilean ID card online. It was a bit of a journey, let me tell you.
First off, I did some digging around to figure out what I needed to do. Found out that apparently, everybody in Chile over 18 years old must have an Identity Card. And it seems like, whether you are a first-time applicant, you need a renewal, or you have lost your current ID, you can get it done. And even if you’re a foreigner, like me, as long as you’re 18 or older and got some kind of visa, you’re good to go.
I started gathering all the documents they asked for. It was quite a list, and honestly, I felt like I was preparing for some kind of spy mission. Birth certificate, proof of address, passport photos – you name it, I got it. Made a few trips to get things notarized, which, let me tell you, is not my idea of a fun afternoon.
Once I had all my paperwork in order, I filled out the online application form. It was pretty straightforward, but I triple-checked everything to make sure I didn’t mess anything up. Typed in all my details, uploaded all the scanned documents, and held my breath as I clicked ‘submit’.
Then came the waiting game. It felt like forever, but I guess that’s just how these things go. I kept checking my email every day, hoping for some kind of update. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, I got an email saying my application was approved!

And guess what? A few weeks later, I got a notification that my card was ready for pickup! Went back to the office, grabbed my new Chilean ID card, and boom, I was officially done. I gotta say, it was a bit of a hassle, but totally worth it in the end. Now I can finally do all the things I need to do here without any problems.
