Okay, so today I wanted to talk about something that’s been on my to-do list for a while: getting an Australian driver’s license. I finally got around to ordering it online, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience.
First things first, I had to figure out which state I needed to apply through. Since I am not living there, it doesn’t really matter where I got one. I thought, “I need to pick one state to get started.”
So, I started digging around. I found out that basically all of the states had the same general process. And most of them has an online application process. I read through a bunch of websites, and honestly, it felt a bit overwhelming at first. There was so much information, and I wasn’t even sure where to begin.
I started by gathering all my documents. I needed my passport, visa information, and proof of my overseas address. Thankfully, I had all of that stuff scanned and saved on my computer, so that part was easy. Then I needed to fill out the online application form. It was long, let me tell you. Lots of personal details, driving history, and all that jazz. I made sure to double-check everything because the last thing I wanted was to mess up and have to start all over again.
Then came the payment. Yep, gotta pay the fees. It wasn’t cheap, but hey, it’s a driver’s license, right? I entered my card details, and hit submit, I chose to send to an address I found online. I know someone will help sign for it.
After that, it was a waiting game. The website said it would take a few weeks to process. I was a little anxious, not gonna lie. I kept checking my email every day for updates. Finally, I got an email saying my application was approved! Woohoo!
But it wasn’t over yet. The license needed to be printed and mailed. Another waiting period. More email checking. And at last, another email arrived with a tracking number. Finally, my license was on its way!
It took some time but it arrived. All that’s left to do is wait for it to arrive by mail!
So, that’s my story of ordering an Australian driver’s license online. It was a bit of a process, but I got there in the end.
