So, I’ve been meaning to get a Mauritius ID card for a while now, and I finally got around to doing it. I thought I’d share my experience in case anyone else is thinking of applying.
First things first, I started by doing some digging online. I knew I had to apply at least a month before my planned travel to Mauritius, so I wanted to get the ball rolling well in advance. The information I found was a bit scattered, but I did find out that having a visa doesn’t guarantee entry into the country. Apparently, the final say comes down to the immigration officer at the border.
I stumbled upon a guide on how to apply for a Mauritius visa. Since I’m not from a visa-exempt country, I knew I needed to get one before traveling. It seems like there are different kinds of visas depending on your purpose of travel or how long you plan to stay.
Gathering Information
I found out that most people don’t need a visa for tourism, or they can get one on arrival. But just to be safe, I decided to check the visa section on the Prime Minister’s office website for more detailed info.
- Find the application website: There is a specific website where you can start the process.
- Read the requirements: Before applying, I made sure to check what documents and information I would need.
- Fill out the application form: It was pretty straightforward. I just had to enter my personal details, travel plans, and some other basic information.
- Submit the application: After filling out the form, I double-checked everything and submitted it online.
Application Details
I also came across something called a “premium visa,” which I learned is free of charge. I found more info on the Economic Development Board website, which seemed like a good resource.
Since I’m also interested in potentially studying in Mauritius, I checked out the University of Mauritius website. They have an online application system for international applicants, with a deadline of February 28, 2025, for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The application fee also has a deadline a few days later, on March 4, 2025.
Waiting Game
After submitting my application, I just had to wait. The website said it could take a few weeks to process, so I tried to be patient. I checked my email regularly for any updates or requests for more information.
Success!
Finally, I got an email saying my application was approved! It was such a relief. Now, I just need to wait for my ID card to arrive in the mail. It wasn’t too much trouble. Overall, the process was pretty smooth. It took a bit of time, but it wasn’t overly complicated. Just make sure you have all your documents ready and follow the instructions carefully.
Anyway, that’s my experience applying for a Mauritius ID card. I hope this helps anyone who’s thinking of doing the same. Feel free to ask if you have any questions, and I’ll do my best to answer based on my experience.
