Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole “get a Serbian passport” thing, and let me tell you, it’s a bit of a journey. I figured I’d share my experience in case anyone else is thinking about doing the same.
First off, I started by hitting up the Serbian Embassy’s website. It’s all pretty official, you know? Turns out, you gotta apply in person. So, I gathered all my documents – basically, anything that proves who I am. Then it takes you about 30 minutes to finish application.
I booked an appointment and went down there. The folks at the embassy were helpful enough, walking me through the forms and all that. It felt a bit like being back in school, filling out paperwork.
I also found out that I can go online to take photos. That’s really convenient. I just took some compliant photos at home, it saved me a lot of time.
Now, while waiting for the Embassy thing, I did some more digging online. I stumbled upon some forums where people were talking about getting a Serbian passport through marriage. Apparently, if you’re married to a Serbian national for three years and have permanent residence, you can apply. I even found some cases, if you’re of Serbian descent, you might have a shot at citizenship through a written request, per Article 23 of their citizenship law. There is also a saying that if you’re 18 or older and have lived there for three years straight, you can apply for citizenship. They also allow dual citizenship, that’s cool.
Then I called their customer service center. I dialed 1-877-487-2778, and the staff there told me it charges you $76 to get a passport. It’s kind of useful.
I also learned a way to get it, someone said that the easiest way is to enroll in some language school and get a certificate that proves you study Serbian that can get you a staying visa for a year.
I also found a site talking about how to become a Russian citizen in 2024 and the documents required for a Serbian passport. It seems to be a long way to go.
From what I gathered online, it seems the Serbian passport is pretty powerful. It’s ranked 39th globally and lets you into 138 countries without a visa or with a visa on arrival. No wonder people want it!
Anyway, that’s where I’m at right now. Still waiting to hear back about my application, but I’ll keep you guys posted. It’s definitely been an interesting process so far!
