Okay, so, I needed to get myself an Angola ID card, and let me tell you, it was quite the process. I started by doing some digging online. I found out that the Ministry of Foreign Relations had made it possible for Angolan citizens abroad to get their ID cards, which was good news for me.
First thing I did was to figure out where to apply. I saw that there were these SIAC units, and they seemed to be the go-to places for this kind of thing. They are all over the place, I mean there are like 284 posts only in Angola, not counting the 26 posts in other countries, which is a lot if you ask me!

Gathering Documents
Then came the fun part – gathering all the required documents. It seemed like I needed everything but the kitchen sink. Birth certificates, proof of address, you name it. I spent a good amount of time just making sure I had everything in order. I even had to make an appointment in advance! Can you believe it? Nine million Angolans don’t even have a birth certificate.

Paying the Fees
After that, I had to deal with the fees. I got a bank slip and went to pay the application fee. And let me tell you, these fees can vary. I heard that for a single entry residence permit visa, it’s about 100 USD, so you can imagine the ID card had its own price tag. Made sure to keep the receipt safe, that’s for sure.

Going to the SIAC
With all my documents and the payment receipt, I headed to the SIAC unit. It was a bit of a wait, but I finally got to submit my application. The people there were quite helpful, guiding me through what seemed like a mountain of paperwork.

Waiting Game
After submitting, it was just a waiting game. They said it could take a while, with all the processing and everything. I knew that even getting a visa could take up to 48 hours, so I was prepared for a bit of a wait for the ID card.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I got my Angola ID card! It was such a relief to have it in hand.
It wasn’t the easiest process, but I got through it. Now I have my very own Angola ID card, and let me tell you, it feels good to have that sorted.
