Alright, so the other day I had to get myself a Namibian ID card. I figured it might be a bit of a hassle, but it’s something you gotta do, right? I mean, I’m planning on sticking around Namibia for a while, and having a valid ID is pretty important for a bunch of things. At first I was lost, until I finally found the right path. Now let me share the way with you.
First off, I tried to see if I could do this online. I mean, it’s 2024, everything’s online these days. But it turns out, for the Namibian ID, you actually gotta show up in person. It seems that first time ID applications can only be done at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration. So, I found the nearest office of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration. That’s where they handle all the ID stuff.
When I got there, I grabbed an application form. It had the usual questions, you know, name, address, that sort of thing. I filled it out nice and neat, didn’t want any issues because of messy handwriting.
Now, for the fees. If this is your first time getting an ID, it’s free. That’s right, zero dollars. But, if you need a replacement, like if you lost your original one, then it’s gonna cost you N$150.00. And it gets more expensive each time you need a duplicate. Second time is N$300.00, third time is 450 and so on. Ouch. Good thing I was just getting my first one.
One thing they needed was my fingerprints. If you’re applying at an embassy, they can do it there. I saw someone fill out a form for a duplicate, and they had to pay 20 euros for it. So, the process seems pretty similar whether you’re in Namibia or applying from abroad.
I handed in my application, and they told me it would take some time to process. So the wait is on. Anyway, I think that covers the gist of it. It wasn’t too bad, just a few forms and some waiting around.
So, that’s my experience applying for a Namibian ID. Hope it helps someone out there!
