Apply online for a Madagascar driving license: A step-by-step guide for you

Alright, so, I’ve been meaning to get a driver’s license here in Madagascar, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey. I figured I’d share my experience, start to finish, in case it helps anyone else out there.

First thing I did was try to find out how to actually apply. Turns out, everything is online now, which is pretty convenient. No running around to different offices, thank goodness. This is an “e-Visa” system, apparently, so it’s all digital.

Step 1: Apply Online

  • I started by filling out this online application form. It was pretty straightforward, just basic info like my name, passport details, and address.
  • Paid the fee for a 6-month provisional permit. Not too bad, price-wise.

Step 2: Practice Driving (with Supervision!)

  • This was the fun part, kind of. I got to use that provisional permit to practice driving. But, you gotta have someone with a license supervising you, so I roped in a friend to help me out.
  • We spent a few weeks just cruising around, getting used to the roads and the, uh, “unique” driving style here.

Step 3: The On-Road Driving Test

  • Once I felt somewhat confident, I scheduled the on-road driving test. This was a bit nerve-wracking, not gonna lie.
  • The test itself involved demonstrating safe driving, following the rules of the road, and all that jazz. Parallel parking, three-point turns, the whole nine yards.
  • I was sweating bullets, but I managed to pass! Huge relief.

Step 4: Demonstrate Safe Driving Knowledge

  • After passing the driving test, I had to show I actually knew the rules and safe driving practices. It was like a written or verbal test.

And that’s it! After that, I just had to wait a bit, and then boom, I got a notification saying my application was approved. Finally got my official driver’s license in the mail a little while later. It wasn’t super quick, but hey, I got it done. The whole process was surprisingly smooth, all things considered. If you need a Madagascar license, just go for it, but it takes some patience to wait for processing.
